The 2013 J.L. Vergnon Hautes Mottes is a single-vineyard Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs from Les Hautes Mottes in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, one of the great Chardonnay villages of Champagne's Côte des Blancs.
Made entirely from Chardonnay and vinified in oak, the wine spends years developing in bottle before disgorgement with zero dosage, leaving nothing between the vineyard and the glass. The 2013 combines the chalk and salinity of Le Mesnil with the complexity of extended lees aging, moving from lemon biscuit and white flowers toward yellow fruit, honey, dried fruit, toast and savory notes. Despite its maturity, the palate remains incisive and remarkably fresh, with a taut mineral structure and long, saline finish.
